Peritonitis

Description
Peritonitis is an inflammation of the peritoneum, a thin membrane that lines the abdominal wall and covers the internal organs. The inflammation caused by bacterial or fungal infection of this membrane.

Primary peritonitis caused by the spread of infection from blood and lymph nodes to the peritoneum. Rare types of peritonitis - less than 1% of all cases of primary peritonitis.

The more common type of peritonitis, which is called secondary peritonitis, caused by an infection when it comes to the peritoneum from the gastrointestinal or biliary tract. The second case of peritonitis is very serious and can be life threatening if not treated quickly.

Signs and Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of peritonitis include:
Swelling and pain in the abdomen
* Fever and chills
* Loss of appetite
* Haus
* Nausea and vomiting
* Urine limited

Treatment
Potentially life threatening peritonitis. Patients recommended for treatment in hospital. Patients require surgery to remove the source of infection, such as appendicitis, or to repair a tear in the wall of the gastrointestinal or biliary tract.
